Welcome to the World!

When I went to the doctor Monday, August 11, I saw Dr. Nichols. I LOVE him!!! When he checked me, I had dilated to almost 3 cm, and I was 60% effaced. He talked over my options with me. I could be induced with Dr. Johnston either Thursday the 14th (39 weeks, 5 days) or Monday the 18th (40 weeks, 2 days). I had said the whole time that I wanted to go into labor naturally with this baby, because I think inducing makes the labor process a lot longer. However, since Braylor was so big (9.1 pounds), and since I have an hour to drive, Dr. Nichols recommended that I get induced. I was also working everyday, and he said that would not be cool if I went into labor at school! I also have Braylor to consider, and I need to know where he would be and who he would be with. So, I went with the 14th. Mainly because if I would've waited until the 18th, I probably would have went into labor on my on....he said it could be 3 hours or 3 days from when I saw him! So, 8/14/14 it is!
We had to arrive at 5:00 a.m. at the hospital. Braylor stayed with Gaga, and when she left to come down there, Nannie and Rudy watched him. As soon as I got there, they took me on in, started my IV with a low dose of pitocin, hooked up all the monitors, and checked me. I had not progressed any from my visit on Monday, but the nurse said we should have a baby after lunch! We had to wait until Dr. Johnston got there to break my water and insert the internal monitor. This was probably the worst part of the entire delivery! She broke my water around 8:45, and then they upped my pitocin.
The contractions were getting harder and closer together. I wanted to wait as long as I could before getting the epidural, because I think that is what stalled me/slowed me down when I had Braylor. Bro. Glenn and Ms. Carol stopped by and prayed with us, and I was hurting pretty bad by this time. Brady was starving, of course, so he left to go him some lunch at KFC. While he was gone, I was hurting so bad that tears were coming out and I started throwing up. I called for the epidural, and received it around 1 or so. I was only 4-5 cm dilated at that time. It took the anesthesiologist FOREVER to do the epidural. He had to do lots and lots of numbing shots, because I could still feel. He had asked me if I ever had a problem with numbing medicine not working when I had a cavity filled or dental work done and I told him I didn't know because I had never had a cavity! After he called for more/stronger numbing medicine and finally got it working, I got the epidural. I was holding on the the nurse so hard and I could "bend" like they wanted me too because I was hurting so bad during contractions. After it kicked in, I was feeling great! I didn't feel a thing, and my legs were numb! The epidural did not stall me this time, and I kept going as slow as I did before. I was averaging 1 cm about every 2 hours. They came in and made me sit like a "frog" to speed things up. Everybody was rushing me, but I could not help it! I began to throw up again because I had not had anything to eat or drink except for ice chips, and with all that pain and medicine, it did not set well. Around 7:30, I told them I kind of felt the urge to push, but not bad and I could definitely hold it. They checked me and said I was dilated 10 cm but not fully effaced. The nurse "helped" me to go ahead and thin out, and she said I was ready to push! They went and got Dr. Johnston. We were watching the monitor so that I could push when I was having a contraction. It was super quick! I only pushed during 3 contractions and Miss Braxley Elise Dunn arrived at 7:57 p.m. Weighing in at 8 pounds, 11 ounces and 21 inches, she was perfect....and she had hair :)
Braxley latched very well and was a hungry girl! After she finished eating, she met her big brother for the first time. He wasn't too excited to see her! After she met big brother, she got to meet the rest of her family.
She is one loved little girl!
